At least 29 people have been killed and 60 are considered missing in Brazil’s southern Rio Grande do Sul state, the latter’s authorities say, reports CNN Brasil. More than 150 cities there were affected by the disaster.

Bad weather has affected this state’s 50 municipalities, where about 10 million people live. At least 10 thousand people had to leave their homes due to the continuous rains. More than 500 thousand houses remained without water supply, and more than 300 thousand—without electricity.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday arrived in Santa Maria municipality, where he met with Rio Grande do Sul Governor Eduardo Leite. But, due to bad weather, authorities were unable to inspect the region.

The Brazilian Armed Forces sent 8 planes and about 600 soldiers to help the victims in Rio Grande do Sul.

The rains started in southern of Brazil on Monday. And on Wednesday, Leite declared a state of emergency due to the damage caused by the floods.
