The matter of including the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty is one of the agendas that shall be discussed at the upcoming Almaty meeting, headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during his press conference Tuesday.

"The Almaty Declaration, as the basic principle of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, is accepted by both countries. It is an irreversible reality because it was recorded by both countries at a high level.

As for the actual delimitation process, it is carried out on the basis of the latest USSR maps with legal force; this is an important record," he said

Pashinyan, however, did not say on the basis of which maps and explained it like this. "You know that we don't want to limit ourselves to listing a specific map because it is important for us to express the legal grounds aimed at ensuring the complete delimitation of the perimeter of the border of Armenia. We also act accordingly in practice. We act according to that logic, maps are used that express the existing borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the time of the collapse of the USSR."

The Armenian PM spoke also about installing border markers between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"This is done on a legal basis, they are becoming a guarantee of safety for Kirants, Baghanis, Aygepar, and for the rest of the settlements [of Armenia]. This process has one goal: to make war pointless, impractical. Depriving the war of the basis for its happening," said Pashinyan.

Also, he announced that 90 percent of the work has already been done and the more it progresses, the stronger the belief that security guarantees are being formed and the war is losing its basis, the war is becoming illogical, it is becoming illegitimate.
