The US used its veto power at the United Nations (UN) Security Council and blocked Algeria's draft resolution on recognizing Palestine as a full member of this international organization.

Twelve Security Council members, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the document accepting Palestine as a full member of the UN, Switzerland and the UK abstained, while the US opposed the draft resolution.

Palestine currently a “nonmember observer state” in the United Nations.
