Osama Hamdan, a senior spokesman for the Palestinian group Hamas, said "some steps forward" had been made in three months of negotiations to end Israel's war on Gaza.

"I think the mediators, our brothers in Egypt and Qatar, are doing a good job. So we still hope to achieve the main goal of a complete ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza," he said.

Hamdan, meanwhile, said the war could end immediately if the US decides it should end.

"We have to talk about the real position of the United States because this is the main issue that will affect the position of the Israelis, and mainly Netanyahu," Hamdan told Al Jazeera. - If the United States administration clearly tells Netanyahu that enough is enough.... I assure you, it will happen."
